Two New York City police officers were shot in the Bronx around 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the police.

The officers were brought to St. Barnabas Hospital and were expected to survive, the police said. A suspect was taken into custody and was being treated at the same hospital.

The shooting took place on Beaumont Avenue, in the Belmont section of the borough. A news conference was expected to be held late Wednesday night at the hospital.

The incident came after another officer was hit by a car while stopping a vehicle in Brooklyn around 6:38 p.m., the police said. The officer was in critical but stable condition, the police said, and might have a broken leg or ankle as well as lacerations.

Several suspects fled, leaving a vehicle behind, and none was taken into custody, the police said.
