PM finding it difficult to handle his own politicians: Zardari

ISLAMABAD:

Former president and PPP Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday questioned Prime Minister Imran Khan’s ability to juggle various issues and said the premier was finding it difficult to ‘handle his own politicians’.

Speaking to the media outside an accountability court in Islamabad, Zardari, in response to a question, stated that the PPP considers the government ‘incompetent’ due to its handling of the DG ISI appointment matter.

“Five drafts were created at the extension of the term of the chief of army staff. I do not know if the decision will change or remain the same,” he said.

The former president maintained that the next elections will be in favour of the PPP and the ongoing process of accountability will continue until the ‘economy further declines’.

The PPP co-chair was present in court for a hearing regarding the suspicious transactions case.

During the proceedings today, Zardari’s counsel, Farooq Naik, argued against the maintainability of the case and said the case is not valid under the recent National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Amendment Ordinance.

“A petition for acquittal was filed under the new NAB ordinance. It should be decided first, but until the application is decided, the accused cannot be charged,” Naik stated.

The court also reversed its decision on the admissibility of Zardari’s plea for acquittal on the basis of the new NAB Ordinance.

According to the charges, the former president is alleged of carrying out transactions worth Rs8 billion using fake bank accounts. It is further alleged that his aide Mushtaq Ahmed deposited the amount in fake accounts, which were later used to purchase pricey properties in Karachi.
