Petroleum dealers call off nationwide strike after deal with govt

ISLAMABAD:

The All Pakistan Petrol Pump Dealers Association (APPPDA) has called off the nationwide strike following successful negotiations with the government over the profit margin on petroleum products.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry also confirmed the development in a tweet late Thursday night.

The government officials assured the petroleum dealers of increasing profit margin on petrol from Rs3.91 to Rs4.90 and on diesel from Rs3.30 to Rs4.13.

The petroleum division will also review the commission of petroleum dealers on fuel on a semi-annual basis.

Panic gripped cities across the country on Wednesday after petroleum dealers announced to go on a countrywide strike for an indefinite period from Thursday (today) in protest against low-profit margin while the Petroleum Division said that it had moved a summary to the Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet (ECC) recommending an increase in the dealers’ share.
