The onset of monsoon has been delayed in the southern districts of West Bengal, including Kolkata, and is now expected to arrive in the next two or three days, even as the monsoon has arrived early in parts of North Bengal, according to the weather department.
On Wednesday, while addressing the media, G K Das, Director, Regional Meteorological Centre Kolkata, said, “The conditions are now favourable for the arrival of the monsoon in south Bengal within the next few days.”
Usually, the monsoon arrives by June 11, but this time it has been delayed by a few days, he added.
However, in contrast, the monsoon had arrived in north Bengal three days in advance. “North Bengal normally receives the first monsoon rain on June 7 but this time the monsoon rain reached the state on June 3,” added Das.
Meanwhile, as per the MeT department, rain activity will increase in five districts of North Bengal – Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Kochbihar and Alipurduar in the coming five days.
