Manika Sheokand urges us to STOP THE WAR against nature and switch to a pollution-free Diwali!

VLCC Femina Miss Grand India 2020 Manika Sheokand is on a mission to do her bit to save the earth and urges everyone to switch to eco-friendly alternatives on a day-to-day basis, as our environment is in dire need of help!

And this Diwali, Manika opens up on the importance of a pollution-free Diwali and shares fun alternatives to have a fabulous festive season!

“As a kid, I was very enthusiastic and full of energy to light firecrackers, but now I look back I realize that back then I was able to see the stars from my balcony in Chandigarh, however now I don’t see a single star in the sky. So I made it a practice to avoid firecrackers in my celebration and even urge my extended family to avoid the same. During my stay in Delhi, I have witnessed the level of pollution; it’s not good. You cannot even see the blue color of the sky! How can you live in that place? And it’s happening because of us!” exclaims the queen.

Avoiding firecrackers will help reduce air as well as noise pollution. Manika further talks about the trouble we cause to the elderly, sick, and animals. The fun of watching the fireworks lasts only a few minutes but has a grave impact on a few others. She requests us to make a conscious effort and quit using these harmful crackers. “Just ask yourself, is lighting crackers worth it? I asked myself, and my answer was, NO.”

Festivals bring you closer to your family because while we all work around the clock throughout the year, these few days are the only ones that help you spend quality time with your family. Manika recommends her fans to explore their creative side, say ‘no’ to crackers, and make sure to light up their houses with diyas. “Make rangolis with organic colors, donate your old clothes to the poor and help your mother as she prepares sweets at home,” she adds.

“I remember we used to go out downstairs and burst crackers; while my mother used to cook special meals for us in the kitchen. It’s about spending time with near and dear ones. And Diwali is all about spreading happiness, love, and light. So why do we keep looking for ways to find happiness? Crackers won’t give you happiness; your family will. Plan an extensive get-together with extended family, play games, etc. Amid Covid-19 we all have realized the importance of spending time with our family. So if you have even two days, why not spend it with them,” she concludes.
