World Championships bronze medallist Lakshya Sen reached the ultimate of the 2022 All England Open Badminton Championships after beating Malaysia`s Lee Zii Jia 21-13, 12-21, 21-19 in the semi-finals on Saturday.
Sen opened up an 11-7 lead on the interval in the primary sport in a battle between two top shuttlers. The Indian was stable and defended brilliantly Lee`s assault and took the opening sport 21-13.
However, the Malaysian made a powerful comeback and hit a string of sensational winners to declare the second sport. In the decider, Lakshya Sen put up an exceptional combat, didn`t surrender and ultimately gained it 21-19.
With this win, Sen grew to become the fifth Indian shuttler to attain the ultimate of the All England Open Badminton Championships.
The 20-year-old from Almora, who had a terrific begin to 2022 by successful the India Open and reaching the ultimate of the German Open final week, had earlier obtained a walkover from his opponent world No 27 Lu Guang Zu of China in the quarter-finals.
The younger Indian shuttler is in nice type, having beaten world champion Loh Kean Yew and Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen in latest weeks.
Only two Indians — Prakash Padukone and Pullela Gopichand — have gained the celebrated title.
This year Sen has been in terrific type.
