LAHORE – Punjab Governor Ch Sarwar Tuesday maintained that electoral reforms’ bill would sail through the Parliament in the following couple of days despite obstacles being created by the opposition.
“The government will succeed in doing legislation on important issues including the electoral reforms in the joint session of the Parliament in a few days,” he said while talking to media after laying a wreath at the mausoleum of Poet of the East Allama Muhammad Iqbal. He also recited Fateha on the grave of Allama Iqbal.
Talking about the electoral reforms’ bill, Ch Sarwar said that giving the right to vote to the Overseas Pakistani was the mission of the PTI-led government, and it would succeed in it. He said that the grant of voting right to the Overseas Pakistanis would strengthen the democracy and Parliament in Pakistan.
Accusing the opposition of politicising the issue of national security, he said that any compromise on the protection of national security and sovereignty was out of the question. “Prime Minister Imran Khan is pursuing a policy of making Pakistan strong and prosperous in line with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal,” he added.
To a question, the governor said that inflation was a big challenge for the government and the federal and Punjab governments were working to deal with it. “Both governments will take steps to give relief to the masses and solve their problems including inflation and unemployment,” he said. To another question regarding protests of opposition parties against the government, Ch Sarwar said that the opposition should reconsider its policies instead of marching on the streets against the government. “The opposition parties are themselves confused. There are too many narratives within the opposition parties. They have never been united before, nor will they be in future,” he observed.
While paying homage to Hakeem-ul-Ummat Allama Iqbal, he said that the teachings of Allama Iqbal became the basis of the concept of Pakistan. “His philosophy of Khudi (Self) is a beacon of light for all humanity.” He stated the need for understanding the message and philosophy of Allama Iqbal was greater that day than ever before. “Dr Iqbal will always be remembered for presenting the concept of a separate homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent.
Allama Iqbal’s poetry and teachings help us understand the true message of Islam,” he said, adding that Allama Iqbal awakened the Muslims from slumber.
“It is because of him that we are breathing in a free country today,” he remarked.
