Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday thanked Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor and Bollywood director Rohit Shetty for their contribution of Rs 5 lakhs to the CM Relief Fund for the flood-affected people in the state.

Taking to Twitter, Assam CM said, “Bollywood actor Shri Arjun Kapoor and director Shri Rohit Shetty stood by the flood-affected people of Assam with their contribution of 5 lakh to CM Relief Fund. I thank them for their concern and act of generosity.”

Meanwhile, barely recovering from the devastation caused by pre-monsoon rainfall in Assam last month, the flood situation in the state took a turn for the worse on Tuesday, following incessant and heavy rainfall since June 13.

As many as 18 districts are affected due to the floods, including the capital city, Guwahati.

The state has registered 42 deaths due to floods and landslides this year, including the four who were buried under a huge mass of earth in the Boragaon area on Tuesday.

Heavy rain has also flooded roads in several parts of the city the worst affected among these being Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Rajgarh Link Road, Rukminigaon, Hatigaon and Krishna Nagar.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and SDRF personnel, deployed in these areas, are using boats to rescue people and offer relief materials to those still stuck in flooded homes, the official said.
